Winter Makeup Routine

Winter is upon us here in South Texas, and with the blistering cold brings lots of dry skin. I'm usually very, very oily throughout the year but often find myself reaching for moisturizing products and extra skin care during the colder months. I was recently doing my makeup on a 39 degree weather morning and thought I'd write a quick blog post on what products I reach for when my face is drying up.

During colder weather conditions I find that I tend to reach for creamy products. The creamy textures really help to create smoother-looking skin whereas powder products can tend to make me look like I have a cracked/cakey face.

To start off, I like to cleanse my face with either Purity cleanser or a sample size I receive when I order makeup. Usually, its Purity, and its done in the shower. Afterwards, on mornings like this, I like to add a scrub or mask to provide extra moisture. One I've been enjoying is the Origins Retexturizing mask with Rose Clay. Its not harsh at all, and its what I like the most. I leave it on for about 5-10 minutes before washing it off.

Moisturize!! My holy grail moisturizer is Clinique Moisture Surge Intense but I've been trying the Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet deluxe size sample.

The BareMinerals Complexion Rescue is absolutely perfect on cold days because its not drying at all. It hydrates your skin without leaving you oily.

The rest of the products are cream textures: Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer, Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer color stick (No. 21 shown), Chanel Melody illusion d'ombre on the eyelids, and the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Protector.

I do like to add highlight, and this day I used the Laura Mercier baked highlighter in 01.

This look takes me about 10 minutes since most of it is applied with either my fingers or my beauty blender. Its really effortless and fool-proof. It also doubles as a no-makeup, makeup look which is perfect since the last thing i want to do on a cold, early morning is spend more time than necessary doing my makeup (i would rather use the extra time to sleep)!

If you've checked out my Instagram, you can see my choices change since I'm not used to even the slightest bit of dry skin and usually freak during the first few cold fronts, immediately reaching for creamy, moisturizing items.

What's your winter makeup routine like? Do you stick to your usual products or do you opt for something different?

Let me know! Thank you so much for reading.

Much love,

Denise
